How does this checker work?
It matches the parts you pick to the games whose stated requirements those parts meet, read from each game's own Steam page. Graphics cards are grouped by generation, the one hardware axis that orders honestly, so it tells you whether a game runs, not the exact frame rate.

Pick the closest card of the same generation, or use the broad graphics-card classes. A card of the same generation gives the same answer at this level of detail.
Is this a real "can you run it" test?
It is honest about what it is: a match against published minimum and recommended requirements, not a scan of your actual PC. It cannot see your drivers or background load. For whether a game launches and is playable, the minimum is the line; for a smooth experience, the recommended is.
