I have been playing and writing about games for over twenty years, and I have played somewhere around 3,000 of them. That number is less impressive than it sounds and more useful than it looks: it means that when I tell you a game is doing something new, I have a reasonably large sample to be wrong about, and when I tell you a mechanic is borrowed, I can usually tell you what it was borrowed from.
What twenty years actually buys you is pattern recognition. I have watched three separate generations decide that open worlds were the future, and I have watched most of those games ship the same empty map with a different skin on it. So when one of them works, I am interested in why, and that is usually what these reviews are about.
I edit everything published here and sign off the factual data on each game page before it goes live. If a number on this site is wrong, that is on me.
