Karate Champ

Karate Champ, released in Japan as Karate, is a 1984 fighting game developed and published by Data East for arcades. The player utilizes dual-joystick controls to input various moves, in order to defeat enemies in a best-of-three matches format. The game was commercially successful, especially in the United States where it was the highest-grossing arcade game of 1985 and the best-selling home computer game up until 1989. It established and popularized the one-on-one fighting game genre, for which it is considered one of the most influential games of all time.

Where Karate Champ sits on the grid

The grid places every game in the catalogue on measured axes rather than on an opinion. This is where Karate Champ lands on each map it has the data for, with the share of the catalogue it beats on each axis.

The whole catalogueLargely forgotten

Percentiles are against the games that carry a reading on that axis, not the whole catalogue: counting a game with no figure as a zero would flatter everything that has one. How the grid works.

What readers say about Karate Champ

Reviews written by people who have played it. These are separate from the GamingPickz Score and are never averaged into it: that score comes from thousands of Steam reviews with a sample-size correction, and a handful of unverified ratings would distort it rather than improve it.
