Mappy

Mappy is a 1983 platform video game developed and published by Namco for arcades. It was released in Japan in March 1983 and in North America by Bally Midway in April 1983. It runs on Namco's Mappy hardware. The name "Mappy" is likely derived from mappo (マッポ), a slightly pejorative Japanese slang term for policeman. The game has been re-released in several Namco arcade compilations. It spawned a handful of sequels and a 2013 animated web series developed by cartoonists Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub.

Where Mappy sits on the grid

The grid places every game in the catalogue on measured axes rather than on an opinion. This is where Mappy lands on each map it has the data for, with the share of the catalogue it beats on each axis.

Year

Reach

Percentiles are against the games that carry a reading on that axis, not the whole catalogue: counting a game with no figure as a zero would flatter everything that has one. How the grid works.

What readers say about Mappy

Reviews written by people who have played it. These are separate from the GamingPickz Score and are never averaged into it: that score comes from thousands of Steam reviews with a sample-size correction, and a handful of unverified ratings would distort it rather than improve it.
