Soul Edge

Soul Edge is a 1995 fighting game developed and published by Namco for arcades. It is the first installment in the Soulcalibur series. Introduced at the JAMMA trade show in November 1995, the full arcade game was released on February 20, 1996 and May 16, 1996 on System 11 hardware, the same board used by Tekken and Tekken 2. Later in December, an upgraded and expanded version of the game was ported to the PlayStation; this version was renamed Soul Blade outside Japan and released in 1997.

Where Soul Edge sits on the grid

The grid places every game in the catalogue on measured axes rather than on an opinion. This is where Soul Edge lands on each map it has the data for, with the share of the catalogue it beats on each axis.

The whole catalogueLargely forgotten
Year
53ahead of 9% of the catalogue
Reach
34ahead of 75% of the catalogue

Percentiles are against the games that carry a reading on that axis, not the whole catalogue: counting a game with no figure as a zero would flatter everything that has one. How the grid works.

What readers say about Soul Edge

Reviews written by people who have played it. These are separate from the GamingPickz Score and are never averaged into it: that score comes from thousands of Steam reviews with a sample-size correction, and a handful of unverified ratings would distort it rather than improve it.
