Problems players report

We read the 124 most recent negative Steam reviews of Final Fantasy V on 30 August 2026 and counted what they mention. These are complaints, not confirmed defects: we have not reproduced any of them, and a review describes one person's machine. What the counts tell you is which problems more than one person ran into.

  1. Softlocks and broken quests9 of 124 (7%)

This means that if you're in Wait mode and go into a menu, you softlock.

Steam review, 18 November 2021 · 66 hours played · 341 readers marked it helpful

Softlocking in combat has happened more then I can count, with the latest being the fight before getting the savepoint in the final dungeon, meaning a half hour progress and some rare steals just gone.

Steam review, 19 November 2021 · 136 hours played · 55 readers marked it helpful
  2. Crashes and freezes9 of 124 (7%)

Additionally there are some random crashes.

Steam review, 18 November 2021 · 66 hours played · 341 readers marked it helpful

But freezing up in combat and in dungeons just sucks.

Steam review, 19 November 2021 · 136 hours played · 55 readers marked it helpful
  3. Performance and stutter6 of 124 (5%)

However there is one thing that keeps me from recommending this (or any other Pixel Remaster): The stuttering.

Steam review, 2 March 2023 · 100 hours played · 14 readers marked it helpful

Overall I'm enjoying my time with this pixel remaster, but I can't recommend it because it has this horrible issue where the camera stutters while moving with the player.

Steam review, 28 June 2026 · 56 hours played · 4 readers marked it helpful

A further 8 reviews call the game buggy or broken without saying how, which is why they are counted separately rather than assigned to a theme. Counted by keyword across review text, so a review discussing two problems is counted under both. Read the reviews yourself.
