Problems players report

We read the 300 most recent negative Steam reviews of Max Payne on 30 August 2026 and counted what they mention. These are complaints, not confirmed defects: we have not reproduced any of them, and a review describes one person's machine. What the counts tell you is which problems more than one person ran into.

However, go into this expecting to patch launcher crashes, audio not playing, buggy physics interactions, and potentially more.

  4. Performance and stutter11 of 300 (4%)

Max Payne is one of my favorite games and one of my favorite shooters, being a fun and challenging third person shooter in which you can slow down time and dive past corners to unleash lead on your enemies all in a cinematic fashion.

Steam review, 5 August 2024 · 9 hours played · 4 readers marked it helpful

Not so much the comic ones or the movie ones, but the game sometimes has in-engine events that play out, and it appears the timers and triggers don't work like they are supposed to on modern PCs (possibly related to FPS, but I don't really know).

Steam review, 8 February 2026 · 3 hours played · 2 readers marked it helpful

A further 37 reviews call the game buggy or broken without saying how, which is why they are counted separately rather than assigned to a theme. Counted by keyword across review text, so a review discussing two problems is counted under both. Read the reviews yourself.
